Group Of Neighbors Fight Fire, Rescue Woman

In a news story from the May 9th, 2025 Fairbanks Daily-News Miner, a heartening story was told of a man named Dawlton Cleveland of North Pole who saw a fire erupting from a side-by-side in front of his next door neighbor's home.

Cleveland is a White Mountain Fire Crew member. He called 911, the News-Miner reported, and then used a hose on the fire. Against the dispatcher's cautions, he ran into the building, and helped a woman get out right before the house erupted into flames.

Other neighbors arrived with fire extinguishers, and soon members of the North Star Volunteer Fire Department, North Pole Fire Department and Forts Wainwright and Eielson Fire Departments arrived, too.

As a result, the house and adjacent homes were saved, and no lives were lost.
