Sad Alaska Exhibit In National Great American State Fair Consists Of A Large Poster, A Frayed Rug, A Single Informational Flyer
Made By AI, The Poster Features A Famed Iditarod Statue In New York's Central Park, Not In Alaska
Media reports of the United States' 16-day long 'State Fair' in Washington D.C. have repeatedly singled out the Alaska booth in their stories to show what an informational state booth looks like at the new 250-year independence celebration in Washington, D.C.
Because of Alaska's enormous draw, Alaska's display has a special interest at the event, which opened to the public on Friday, June 26th. Governor Mike Dunleavy just slashed Alaska's state tourism budget in half.
Photographs of the Alaska booth show it follows a widely-used template that is duplicated throughout the event. The booth features a jumbo-sized poster with AI-generated graphics showing Alaskan wildlife, coastal towns, an Alaska Railroad train, a fishing boat, and the Pipeline. Native culture is represented by a totem pole.
The drawbacks of using unchecked artificial intelligence to present Alaska to the outside world are perhaps best illustrated in the graphic of Balto.
On the Alaska state display there's a photo of a statue of the famous sled dog from the original Iditarod Serum Run. The booth's picture of Balto shows a proud dog, standing bold and high. But that photo is of a statue that's in New York City, in Central Park.
It's not the Balto statue in Anchorage, Alaska, in which the famed sled dog is shown at a full run.

Views of the display for Alaska are shown below:
Like the display next to it, for the ever-popular state of Hawaii, the Alaska display is 3-sided, features a rumpled rug and a small black table, with a single sheet of paper on it. The Hawaii display has added two padded chairs. The Alaska display has no chairs.
Reports in Alaska say that the booth in Washington D.C. at this event is not staffed.
Alaska presents one of the most romantic and historic views of America. It is considered a prime area of public interest. In Alaska, the tourism industry brings in almost $2 billion annually, and creates almost 40,000 jobs.
