A Piper PA-22 has crashed at the Dan Creek airstrip near McCarthy, Troopers say. Three people have died. The crash took place around 9:30 pm on Monday, July 27th. According to Troopers, who spoke to the Daily News, the plane was a personal one, carrying a pilot and two passengers. Their identities have not been revealed by Troopers. 

On the Aviation Safety Network site, the crash is noted, and the owner-operator is listed as 'private.' The plane's registration number is N4535A, and its MSN is 22-3844. Its year of manufacture is 1956, and its current status is 'destroyed.' The 70-year old plane was a 4-seat, single engine aircraft. 

The Anchorage Daily News reported that Troopers flew in to the site at 6 am on Tuesday, July 28th. Official news of the crash to the public didn't surface until almost 11 am on Wednesday, July 29th.

On July 27, 2026, at 9:36 pm, the Alaska State Troopers received a report of a plane crash at Dan Creek airstrip, near McCarthy. On July 28, 2026, at 6:00 am, Troopers responded in a state aircraft. They discovered three deceased people in the wreckage. Their remains are being transported to the State Medical Examiner's Office for autopsy and positive identification. The NTSB has been notified.
