Transportation Secretary Says New Lanes Should Not Be Funded – And Current Bike Lanes Destroyed 

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy has asked Congress to eliminate federal grants for bike safety infrastructure. He is asking legislators to "Prioritize Motor Vehicle Travel Over Bicycle Lanes." 

The secretary believes that bike lanes are "DEI".  

In addition to defunding new bike lanes, the transportation secretary also wants to remove existing lanes. He recently said: 

“We urge Congress to restrict competitive and formula grant funding for bicycle lanes and other bicycle infrastructure that reduce travel throughput [sic] for motor vehicles and support removal of existing bike lanes that contribute to congestion.”

Bicycling is essentially a part of American life and childhood.
Over 100 million Americans now ride or have bicycles according to the website PeopleForBikes. 

At the time of the Alaska Gold Rush of 1898, 900,000 newly-invented bicycles were sold in a single year, and there were 400 bike manufacturers in America. 

According to sources on the web, Americans are, nevertheless, not as 'bike friendly' as other countries -- especially when compared to European countries, where, in many cities, people commute to work on bicycles.
