Incident Happened July 12th, Troopers Say, When Winnebago 'Disregarded' Signs & 'Nearly Struck A Construction Worker,' They Say

On July 12, 2026, Alaska State Troopers responded to a dangerous traffic incident in a construction zone near mile 165 of the Richardson Highway. Witnesses reported that a beige Winnebago RV disregarded posted pilot-car instructions and nearly struck a construction worker while passing through the active work area. Additional witnesses stated the RV failed to stop for the flagger, swerved around equipment, and narrowly missed the pilot-car driver by only inches. Troopers later located the involved vehicle and confirmed multiple signs instructing motorists to wait for and follow the pilot car. Based on the investigation, Troopers determined the driver operated the vehicle in a manner that created a substantial and unjustifiable risk to workers on scene. A summons has been issued for the driver for Reckless Driving under AS 28.35.400.
