Wrangell-St. Elias National Park Press Release August 20th, 2021: 

Search Underway for Missing Hunter in Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and Preserve 

 

Copper Center, AK – A search is currently underway for a hunter reported missing on August 19th, 2021 after he did not check in by InReach during a hunting trip in the Jacksina/Canyon Creek area of Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and Preserve. David White is a 40-year-old male, 5’11” tall, 185 pounds, with short brown hair and blue eyes. He was carrying a green backpack. His last known location was in the Jacksina Creek drainage.  


National Park Service (NPS) Rangers were notified the evening of August 16th that the last time the hunter checked in was on Thursday, August 12th.  On August 17th, 18th, and 19th, NPS Park Rangers and Alaska Wildlife Troopers flew over the area looking for sign of hunters in need of assistance.  Search teams in the field are made up of NPS Rangers and Alaska Wildlife Troopers, including Alaska Wildlife Trooper and National Park Service fixed wing aircraft; a contracted helicopter; and personnel on the ground.
