Mat-Valley Accountant & Church Leader

Son Of Merritt & Louise Tegeler

On Monday, May 23, 2022, Wesley D. Tegeler, beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed away at home from incurable brain cancer.

Wes was born on January 20, 1952 in Chicago, Illinois to Merritt and Louise (Noble) Tegeler. After graduation from Glennallen High School in 1969, Wes attended Kinman Business University and Biola University earning degrees in business and accounting. He was employed in Anchorage, Alaska as an accountant before moving to the Mat-Su Valley where he started his CPA firm and served his clients until December 2021. He married Karen Leman on September 17, 1977 in Anchorage. Together, they raised three children: Katerina, Peter, and Luke.

Wes enjoyed long motorcycle rides, landscaping, hiking, singing, and visiting his children and grandchildren. He was involved in his church as an elder and worship leader. Over the years, he also participated in the Chamber of Commerce, Mat-Su Tourism Board, community choir, and many CPA organizations.

Wes’s faith in Jesus was the most important aspect of his life. He began each day in quiet solitude, meditating on scripture and praying for friends, family, community issues and global concerns. He supported the ministry of others through his involvement in the boards for Solid Rock Bible Camp, InterAct Missions and Alaska Bible College. He was a lifelong learner, returning to books and authors that challenged him.

Wes was preceded in death by his mother, Louise, his father, Merritt and his brother Joel. He is survived by his wife, Karen, his three children: Katie Anaya (John), Peter (Erin), Luke (Heather), his 10 grandchildren, his siblings Vonnie Stone (Mike), Daniel (Linda), Jeanette Sutherland, Beth Virgin (Dan), Amy Stevenson, and many nieces, nephews and friends.

A memorial service will be held on June 18th at Wasilla Bible Church at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Compassion International, Alaska Gospel Rescue Mission, or Solid Rock Bible Camp.
