A bad strain of flu is rotating through the Copper River Valley. The Country Journal pulled some information from the Mayo Clinic website on the flu and how to assess its severity at home – and when to decide if you'd better go in during one of the weekday clinics. 

(Remember, there is no clinic service after hours or into the night during the week – or on weekends.)  Babies under 2 years old and adults over 65 have the worst outcomes from flu.

People with weakened immune systems (due to illness, or medicines) don't do well with flu.

If you have had "chronic illnesses" – like diabetes, heart disease, a previous stroke, or kidney disease – flu is more dangerous for you. Flu is more dangerous when you're pregnant. Heavier people have worse flu symptoms
