Have you wondered about the McCarthy Road Planning & Environmental Linkages (PEL) Study this winter? The study team has been busy incorporating public feedback from last summer and evaluating a set of recommended road corridor improvement projects to be included in the upcoming PEL study report. The study team also received preliminary geotechnical drilling results from the DOT&PF site investigation near mile 58. Slope monitoring equipment was installed that will allow ongoing data collection at that site.
Your input matters greatly and has shaped what is being included in the PEL study. What we heard from you over the summer is available in a Summary, saved on the project websitewww.McCarthyRoadPEL.com. There were hundreds of comments about the potential solutions to evaluate and how they should be prioritized.
What to expect this Summer & Fall:
- The Draft PEL Report will be shared with agencies, the Project Advisory Committee (PAC), and public after Memorial Day. We’ll let you know by emails and a newsletter when its ready.
- The Draft PEL Report will describe project recommendations, priorities and an implementation plan, suggestions for who would sponsor these improvements and potential partnerships, and possible funding sources.
- An Online Open House will go live in June to show the recommended projects on an interactive map where you can provide additional comments.
- Comments will be incorporated into the Final PEL Report by this Fall.
The intent of the PEL study is to help future project sponsors use the PEL documentation to seek funding and plan for improvement projects in the near- and long-term. Remember, none of these projects will advance without future funding, though your input will help guide prioritizing which ones might advance sooner.
Talk to you soon!
