The Bureau of Land Management, under the direction of Congress, has released a draft of a feasibility study for a proposed "Long Trail" from Seward to Fairbanks.

The 500-mile trail would be for recreation purposes. The proposed trail passes through Ahtna Country near Cantwell on the western end of the Denali Highway.

Ahtna opposes the trail crossing Ahtna land. A May 15th, 2024 letter from Ahtna said:

Apparently there is an idea afloat that there might be two shorter trails -- one going from Seward to the start of Ahtna land and the second from the northern border of Ahtna land on the Parks to Fairbanks.

There's public comment until April 14th.
