National Park Service to Burn Debris Piles in Copper Center and near the Nabesna Road

Copper Center, AK— Wrangell-St. Elias National Park & Preserve Fire Management staff will conduct debris pile burns March 16th through March 19th, if weather conditions allow. The piles are located near the park’s Headquarters & Visitor Center near Mile 106.8 Richardson Highway, Copper Center, AK and a cabin site near Mile 42 of the Nabesna Road.

Debris were created during fuels reduction projects that will aid in wildland fire protection to increase visitor and employee safety while providing defensible space for the park’s infrastructure.  National Park Service Fire Management staff will be on-site to monitor the burning. Smoke is expected to be visible in the surrounding area, from the Richardson Highway, Nabesna Road, and from aircraft during this time.
