Dennis Robert Longfellow
1934-2025
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Dennis Robert Longfellow, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. He passed away peacefully on May 20, 2025, at the age of 90, leaving behind a legacy of love, adventure, and unwavering faith.
Born to Clayton Longfellow and Florence Thesing, Dennis carried a deep sense of integrity, discipline, and service throughout his life. He proudly served in the United States Navy at the end of the Korean War, further shaping his steadfast character. His devotion to his Catholic faith remained a guiding light, a steady presence throughout his life's milestones.
For 30 years, Dennis built his life amid the vast, untamed beauty of Alaska, residing in Gakona and Soldotna, where towering peaks and endless wilderness shaped his spirit. Later, he made his home on a ranch in Lostine, Oregon, nestled beneath the watchful gaze of the Wallowa Mountains, where open fields and crisp mountain air became a part of him. In his later years, he found warmth in Arizona, retreating to his second home during the winter months near the shimmering waters of Lake Havasu.
Whether navigating the Alaskan frontier, hunting, fishing, or taking to the skies as a private pilot, Dennis embraced life with curiosity and passion. He found joy in the journey—whether discovering new places or revisiting old favorites. He was also a dedicated collector of coins and hunter of "treasures," reveling in the thrill of searching for tokens and keepsakes transformed into cherished memories. Every outing was an opportunity to uncover something special.
His career with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) allowed him to contribute his skill and dedication, embodying the strong work ethic he carried throughout his life.
Dennis was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Donna May Longfellow, his lifelong companion and partner in adventure. Their marriage was built on mutual respect and enduring companionship, creating a home filled with tradition, resilience, and love. He was also preceded in death by his grandson Zebulon E. Osborne, a two-tour veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan and a Purple Heart recipient.
He is survived by his siblings, Kenneth Longfellow and his wife, Kathy, along with his sister, Rosilie Keller. His children, Nicole Longfellow and her husband, Bill; Terry Spracklen and his wife, Rene; Ross Spracklen and his wife, Patricia; and Zonna Osborne, continue his legacy. He was also deeply cherished by his grandchildren, Nicholas Spracklen and his wife, Ashley; Kevin Spracklen; Shanna Conway and her husband, Shane; Tara Spracklen; and Lacey Gover. His nephews, Chad, Russel, Jamie, and Trevor Longfellow, as well as his great-grandchildren, Channing and Myles, will carry forward his spirit and memory.
His egacy lives on not only in the stories we share but in the lessons he imparted. In his final days, he gifted a family member a 'treasured' statue—"End of the Trail"—signifying the completion of his own journey. It was a gesture of quiet reflection, one last lesson in finding meaning at life's close—a testament to the wisdom and love he carried always.
May he rest in eternal peace.
