Naomi Young rented a spot for her store, Casa De La Arte, next to Tazlina Trading Post for the past five years. Then, in a single afternoon, right before Christmas, the entire place burned down.

On Monday afternoon, a day after the fire destroyed the Tazlina Trading Post complex, which included her art store, she talked with the Country Journal. "I just lost my livelihood. It's a little overwhelming right now."

Naomi had not been working at the store during the fire. It was a Sunday. But, "We started hearing about it, and went over there when it was burning. We sat there and had to watch it burn," she said.

On Monday, she was still stunned. "We're just trying to figure out where to start over." Although Casa De La Arte has another new half-built building they're putting up in Glennallen, it's been taking a while. "We've been building that out of pocket. Now I don't have the means... we'll try to figure out how to get that up and going. We're going to have to start from scratch." Everything was burned: "My paint brushes, canvases..."

They did not have renter's insurance, she said.

Naomi feels terrible about the loss of Tazlina Trading Post. "The Tazlina store had everything. People went there to get anything you couldn't find it somewhere else."
