The popular Alaskan-family owned Dimond Center and its large parking lot won't be open this Sunday, January 17th. That's because an on-line flyer has listed the Dimond Center as the site in Alaska of a nationwide armed rally organized by far-right groups. The shopping center wants to protect its shoppers and stores from serious harm.
The FBI says that they are worried about armed gatherings planned across the country on Sunday, January 17th.
When the Dimond Center found out that they had been listed as the site of a rally they immediately responded. After the well-recorded mob violence at the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday in Washington D.C., the shopping mall was quick to report that they had not approved any such gathering.
The center's manager, Bob Dye, told Alaska Public Media that as private property they would not allow the event to take place there, "as is our right."
He has called the Anchorage Police Department and FBI, Dye said.
