Carey Carew Dies At Age Of 48

Carey Lynn Carew passed away January 8, 2021 at the age of 48, and was buried in the Copper Center Cemetery.

Born on August 14th, 1972 to Lynn Craig and Donna Barlip, Carey was raised by Marina and Monty Montague.

Carey had a number of service jobs. She worked as an EMT,  ETT, firefighter, and Community Health Aid. She worked for Ahtna, on the Alyeska Pipeline, and then for Ahtna Land Development.

In 1992, she met Tom Carew. Tom and Carey Carew raised 6 children, and adopted two more: Corina, Edward, Tyler, Annie, Avery, Marina, Atlas and Luna. They also served as foster parents.

Eventually the couple moved their family to Nikiski, and Carey worked as a cashier there. Her family said she stayed with Safeway until she was too ill to work. She spent her last few years with her husband, children, grandchildren and puppies.
