The Province of Manitoba is under seige from massive early-summer wildfires. According to reports from the Canadian province, the Canadian military is literally airlifting almost 20,000 people out of their communities as multiple fires spread across the region.
"First Nations" people (known in Alaska as Native Americans) are especially affected, with whole communities trapped in Saskatchewan. In Alberta, oil production is curtailed, and there are mandatory evacuations.

The effects of the fires have a possible wide impact across the distant border to the United States.
Pollutants from the Canadian fires in the past have turned the skyline in New York City an eerie orange-yellow. According to the Guardian, the U.S. Weather Service is warning of air quality alerts in Chicago, Washington D.C., Detroit and Minnesota.
Canadian experts are concerned about the serious health impacts of breathing bad air, and that this will be an extremely bad fire year.
