Decides To Shut Down Major Pharmacy Contracts At All Affiliate Stores In America
Pharmacy services through many providers in Alaska are going to be sharply cut back starting January 1st, thanks to decisions made by Fred Meyer.
Kroger, which (according to their website) currently runs 2,800 stores in 35 states, "operating under 28 different names" -- including Fred Meyer -- will be shutting down specific pharmacy services in Alaska and all over the nation starting at the end of December.
News reports say that, in Alaska, this medical decision will affect military families, those with federal contracts, Anchorage city employees, and other people with health insurance who use Premera Blue Cross, Blue Shield and others. These people all use a system called "Express Scripts" for prescriptions, which will be blocked by Fred Meyer.
Everyone in this system will have to transfer to another pharmacy.
There are 13 Fred Meyer pharmacies in Alaska. But Albertson, which owns the company, is also in the process of taking over Alaska's Safeway and Carrs stores.
Fred Meyer has prided itself, for years, on its reliability. Here is a Google page regarding Fred Meyer pharmacies, as of December 29th, 2022:
