Team Had Been In Alpine Creek Excursion Sled Dog Race

A snowmachine operated by a Polaris company tester ran into four dogs belonging to musher Jim Lanier of Chugach on Monday, December 11th, 2023. Two dogs died on the scene. Another died on the way to a veterinary clinic in Wasilla.

It was the second time that a snowmachine has killed dogs on the Denali in less than a month.

In November, two dogs belonging to musher Dallas Seavey were killed on the Denali in another snowmachine collision. Seven of Seavey's other dogs were injured.

Snowmachine testing is a long-standing practice on the Denali Highway. Professional teams have come up to the Denali Highway for decades to test their vehicles in the harshest conditions in America.
