One Of Many Military Accidents Involving Helicopters

Apache Helicopter (U.S. Air Force)

On Thursday, April 27th, three Alaskan soldiers were killed and a fourth was injured when two Apache AH-64 helicopters ran into each other and crashed near Healy, north of Denali Park and south of Fairbanks on the Parks Highway.

The helicopters were dispatched from the 1st Attack Battalion at Fort Wainright, and had just been on a training mission according to the Army.

The names of the soldiers involved have not yet been released, and the collision is being investigated.

Military helicopters are not that safe. In March, two Army Black Hawks crashed in training in Kentucky, killing 9 soldiers when they collided in mid-flight at night.

Two soldiers were injured in Talkeetna in February when their Apache rolled over at the airport there.

In February, a UH-60 Black Hawk crashed in training in Alabama, killing two pilots.

The list of aviation accidents involving helicopters seems endless. Here is the Military.com website catalogue of recent military helicopter crashes nationwide.
