Tok Area Implements Burn Suspension Due to High Fire Danger and Ongoing 7 Mile Lookout Fire Activity
TOK, AK – July 29, 2025 – Effective 9:00 AM on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, the Tok Area has implemented a burn suspension. This decision comes as the Tok Area enters a period of High Fire Danger, significantly influenced by the ongoing activity of the 7 Mile Lookout Fire (#222), located approximately seven miles southwest of Tok.
The burn suspension prohibits all open burning, including the use of burn barrels, agricultural burning, and the burning of debris piles or maintained lawns. State law requires those wanting to conduct any open burning on state, private, and municipal lands from April 1 through August 31 to get burn permits from the Alaska Division of Forestry & Fire Protection either online or at your local Forestry office.

Burn permits are NOT required for camping, cooking, or warming fires less than three feet in diameter with flame lengths less than two feet high.
The 7 Mile Lookout Fire continues to require resources, and with the elevated fire danger, proactive measures must be taken to prevent any new ignitions. Adherence to this burn suspension and the exercise of extreme caution with any outdoor activities that could spark a fire are strongly urged.
As of July 28, 2025, the 7 Mile Lookout Fire is approximately 3,969 acres and 55% contained. Firefighters continue to strengthen control lines and prepare for potential burnout operations to guide the fire safely. Smoke may be visible from Tok and along the Tok Cutoff of the Glenn Highway, and drivers should monitor road conditions at 511.alaska.gov.
The burn suspension will remain in effect until fire danger conditions decrease and resources become more readily available.
