Wildfires In Yukon Affect The Copper Valley; Areas Near Dawson City Evacuated

Forest fires in the Yukon near Dawson City have prompted an evacuation of some of the properties east of the historic Gold Rush town, including the Dawson airport.

According to Canadian authorities, Dawson City – which is one of the best-maintained and curated standing examples of the Great Klondike Gold Rush – is not endangered.

However, even in the Copper Valley, the fires are noticeable, with dim, yellow light blanketing the valley throughout the day of Tuesday, August 3rd, 2021. There's a possibility of poor air quality due to wildfires across the Canadian border.

The smoke gave a haze to the atmosphere in areas near the fire: Tok, the Copper Valley & Northway. You could also see haze as far away as Anchorage and the Mat-Su Valley.
