GLENNALLEN HIGH SCHOOL SAYS...
NO MORE BATHROOM PASSES DURING CLASS
UNLESS YOU HAVE A DOCTOR'S NOTE
In efforts to improve student absences at GHS, bathrooms will be off limits during instructional times starting tomorrow 2/22/22.. Glennallen High School is experiencing a high volume of students using the restrooms for an unsubstantial amount of time which has been affecting students' grades. Parents, if your child has a medical condition that justifies an extensive amount of time for bathroom usage please submit the doctor's note to the front office ASAP. GHS is making every effort to ensure student success and we do appreciate parental support. ATTENDANCE Parents/guardians of children aged 7 to 16 are obligated by law to send their children to public school except as allowed by law. The Board and its administrators shall abide by all state attendance laws and may use any legal means to correct the problems of excessive absence or truancy. (BP 5113) Absences in a Semester High School (Grades 9-12) Regular attendance is critical for classroom success. Student learning demands daily classroom attendance, as well as active participation and involvement. Learning is greatly diminished when a student misses labs, lectures, class discussions, and in-class activities. The district has determined that if a high school student (grades 9-12) misses more than 10 BASECAMP classes in a semester, he or she may not receive credit in that course (not including absences related to school-sponsored activities). The district has determined that if a high school student (grades 9-12) misses more than 5 TREK classes in a semester, he or she may not receive credit in that course (not including absences related to schoolsponsored activities.) The district has determined that if a high school student (grades 9-12) misses more than 15 PLUS Period classes in a semester, he or she may not receive credit in that course (not including absences related to school-sponsored activities). Truancy Truancy is defined as intentionally missing a school day or portion of the school day without the knowledge of the parent/guardian or the school administration. Truancy will result in disciplinary measures being assigned in a progressive manner. Unless a child subject to compulsory attendance laws is exempted or excused, each five days of unlawful absence constitutes a separate violation of Alaska’s truancy law (AR 5113b and AS 14.30.020). -Glennallen High School, February 21, 2022 |
