Roy Tansy, Jr., an Ahtna shareholder originally from the western Ahtna village of Cantwell, has been promoted to Chief Executive Officer of the organization. His new role will go into effect on February 19th, 2023.
Roy has worked in Ahtna for 30 years. His most recent position has been as Ahtna's Chief Operating Officer.
In information published by Ahtna on its website, "He brings over 20 years of executive-level experience in operations, business development, strategic planning, and corporate leadership. His professional background has included management of construction, oil and gas, facilities management and security companies."
Roy Tansy, Jr. comes from an illustrious Ahtna family. His grandfather Jake Tansy – married to Lily Tansy – was one of the Ahtna people's most knowledgeable historians.
His father, Roy Tansy, Sr., who died in 2021, had lived as a child in Valdez Creek on the Denali Highway, Brushkana, and Cantwell. Roy Sr. married Irene Widmark, who was Tlingit, and became a popular schoolteacher in the Copper Valley. She was the first Native to teach in the CRSD. Irene passed away in 2009.
Roy Tansy, Sr., also had a major role with Ahtna. He was president of Ahtna during the pivotal time when Ahtna settled with Alyeska Pipeline over the use of Ahtna lands.
