It's an early winter. Over most of the Copper Valley's roads, the DOT web site map shows the region as experiencing only "fair" driving conditions.
Past Eureka, towards Anchorage on the Glenn Highway, the site warns:
"Chains recommended, Reduce your speed, Slippery road surface, Snow removal equipment on roadway, Stay back 200 feet from snowplows".
Many Copper Valley residents know that in a rain and snow mix, with temperatures near freezing, you should be particularly careful coming down Long Lake Hill which can be treacherous in this transitional weather.
