Forestry Has Issued A Burn Ban For

A burn permit suspension is in place for the Copper River Basin, Delta Junction, Fairbanks and Tok regions due to increased warming and drying, limited firefighting resource availability and ongoing fire activity.

On the afternoon of July 4th, 2021, the National Weather Service in Anchorage issued a Red Flag Warning alert for the Copper Valley. The alert came in on local cell phones who had signed up for the service.  That Red Flag Warning has expired but the burn ban is still in place.

On Tuesday at noon winds of 14 mph with gusts to 28 mph were continuing but the temperature has dropped into the low sixties. The relative humidity has gone back up to 56% from a low of around 25% said the weather service.

The Red Flag Alert is issued when there is an extreme likelihood of forest fires. The alert comes to all local cell phones who sign up for the service.
