Bad Road Conditions In Kenny Lake Contributed To Fatal Crash, Troopers Say

The Alaska State Troopers have added more information about the Mile 82 Richardson Highway crash that occurred near the entrance to the Edgerton Highway in Kenny Lake last week.
The deadly crash took place on Thursday, January 28th, in the early afternoon. It involved two vehicles, and a 35-year old Valdez man, Preston Welter, was killed.
Tim DeSpain, of the Alaska State Troopers. told the Journal the following additional information on Monday, January 31st, in response to a Journal inquiry.
De Spain said the other vehicle was a Ford pickup with three occupants. towing an enclosed trailer.
The Troopers said Welters' vehicle had one other passenger. who was "next of kin" and who survived.
Troopers said that Welter's Dodge pickup and the other Ford pickup were traveling in opposite directions when they crashed head-on.
Last week, a heavy snow blanketed the region. Troopers said that at the time of the incident, "The snow conditions were bad and the blowing snow due to other vehicles was severe."
