On July 4, 2022, at approximately 7:30 am, the Alaska State Troopers received a report of an infant death at a campground near Nelchina. An investigation revealed that a nine-month-old infant was located unresponsive in his bed by his parents. 

Two off-duty Alaska State Troopers who were in the same campground immediately responded and began life-saving efforts. Despite their efforts, the infant was declared deceased at the scene. No foul play is suspected, and the remains are being sent to the State Medical Examiner for autopsy.
