Nick Jackson Honored By AFN

Gulkana resident Nick Jackson, a member of the Caribou ("udzisyu) Clan of the Ahtna People, has been named the Alaska Federation Of Natives "Citizen Of The Year."
The AFN is currently running its annual convention in Anchorage.
Born to Tony and Mary Jackson of Copper Center, Nick Jackson is married to Lorraine Jackson. The couple has four children: Harvey, Angela, Frances and Elton.
Nick Jackson served in the U.S. military from 1958 to 1964, and worked in construction, including as a manager. He has served his home village, Gulkana, for years, and has worked as Chair on Ahtna Inc.'s board of directors.
He has also been on numerous committees and boards, including for the Copper River Native Association. He was president of Ahtna Inc. from 1980 to 1983.
Over his lifetime, Nick Jackson has been involved in a number of lawsuits filed against the State of Alaska in defense of hunting rights. He is a staunch advocate for the protection of hunting habitat and a customary and traditional way of life.
