VaLinda Vermillion
Born In 2006, Passed Away In October, 2024

VaLinda Lorraine Vermillion was born on August 19, 2006 to Vincent and Davina Goodlataw. The Lord placed her in the home of Frank and Angela Vermillion at ten days old and later they officially adopted her at three years old.

Being adopted made her very special to many because she was loved by her biological family and so many more. She has a family that loves her dearly from many places and tribes such as: Tazlina, Gulkana, Mentasta, Kluti Kaah, Tetlin, Arizona, the Lummi and Lakota Tribes and the Inupiaq people. She went home to be with the Lord on October 16, 2024.

When she was younger at the Gulkana Culture Camp, Ahtna Elder Etta Bell called her C’enyu’ggaay which means ‘Pretty or Cute One’ and in the same timeframe minister Barbara Curtis gave her an Inupiaq name, Aññaŋŋaa with the same meaning of Cute.

VaLinda played basketball throughout her school years up to her sophomore year. She played Center and Forward and was an avid rebounder wearing her number 13 Glennallen Basketball jersey. She went to State in both her freshman and sophomore years.

VaLinda was very active attending Bible Camps and Basketball camps across Alaska including Camp Nashii on the Yukon River and in Valdez, Wasilla, Fairbanks and at home. She met a lot of friends along her journey touching young people and adults.

VaLinda was also very active in her cultural and traditional use ways with harvesting salmon, moose and berries with the family.

VaLinda’s self-taught and creative passion resulted in her own haircuts and colorings and many crocheting projects. She talked of attending beauty school which we believe she would have excelled at.

She also had a natural ability to work with babies and small children.

In the first few years of elementary school, it was very difficult for VaLinda to not be leader of the line. In retrospect, VaLinda beating all of us to heaven is her very nature.

VaLinda will be missed in her home of the Ahtna region and throughout the state.

Although it hurts very much, we will focus on the joy unspeakable that she is experiencing and that she is forever lost in the Lord’s amazing love!
