FBI & Colorado Sheriff's Department Worked With Troopers On This Case, Troopers Say

On 1/8/2022 at approximately 1635 hours, Alaska State Troopers Responded to a REDDI report near Mile 186 of the Glenn Highway. Investigation revealed 47yo Edward Wheeler, of Colorado, was impaired. Wheeler was placed under arrest and transported to Glennallen Post where he refused to provide a breath sample. Further investigation revealed Wheeler was a felon and on probation out of Colorado for a weapons offence. During the contact Wheeler had a loaded revolver between the driver’s seat and center console. Wheeler was charged with DUI and Refusal to Submit to a Chemical Test as well as Misconduct Involving Weapons in the 3rd degree and Misconduct Involving Weapons in the 4th Degree. After arraignment Mr. Wheeler was transported and remanded to Mat-Su Pretrial Facility with bail set at $100,000 Cash/Appearance and $4,000 Cash/Performance.

 

UPDATE:

On 4/19/2022 a Federal Grand Jury indicted Edward Wheeler for the charge of Felon in Possession of a Firearm as a result of his contact in Glennallen on 1/8/2022 and a federal arrest warrant was issued. On 4/25/2022 Glennallen troopers contacted Wheeler in Slana and arrested him without incident. Wheeler was transported to Mat-Su Pretrial then transferred to a federal facility where he was held without bail. Further investigation revealed Wheeler had a fully extraditable arrest warrant out of Routt County Colorado for Violating Conditions of Probation on the original charge of Felony Menacing with a Firearm. The Alaska State Troopers would like to thank the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Safe Streets Task Force and the Routt County Sheriff’s Department for their assistance in this case.
