Peach Of A Change Proposed In Downtown Anchorage
A Florida-based company named Peach Holdings says it's intending to change the look of Downtown Anchorage.
To accomplish this, the 4th Avenue Theater will have to be demolished. The ornate movie theater was popular at one time. In later years, it was only used sporadically, for conventions. Lately, it's been completely shuttered.
The new graphic for the proposed project is dramatic. (For those who love the old 4th Avenue Theater sign, apparently that sign will still be kept):
Several years ago, the Copper River Country Journal took photographs of the Anchorage skyline, starting outside the 4th Avenue Theater:
The Journal also took pictures of the "historic" mural on the outside of the boarded theater, depicting how 4th Avenue looked in the days when most cars had gear shifts and were painted black:

There was no major difference.
The Art Deco theater was built in 1941 and is on the National Register of Historic Places. Its unused interior is gilded and covered in Alaskan murals.
