The Fairbanks Police will not have anybody patrolling its streets from 8 am to noon, starting August 1st.

According to a surprising story on Alaska Public Media, the Fairbanks police have only 29 people holding down 44 positions,

Of those 29 spots, only 10 patrol officers are out on the street.

Alaska Public Media says because there aren't enough Fairbanks officers, city shifts will now run two 10-hour schedules.

The story said that Fairbanks is "bleeding officers" who are leaving because of low wages and replacements aren't being trained fast enough.
