Active Shooter Drill On Friday Afternoon

No Students Will Be Involved
On Friday March 31st, 2023 at approximately 2:15 pm, Glennallen School staff will be practicing an “Active Shooter Drill” where the Alaska State Troopers will be responding to the school. Apparently, students will not be involved in the practice, which will take place after school hours. On Fridays, the Copper River School District lets children out very early in the afternoon, at 2 pm. The normal school day ends at 3:10 pm.

ACCORDING TO THE SCHOOL DISTRICT: This type of drill will secure the school building and safely shelter for all students, staff and visitors inside the building. The Glennallen School staff has been planning/preparing for this for several months with a few scheduling conflicts and have now been afforded the opportunity.

The purpose of this drill is to keep the students safe from any danger outside or inside the building. During any type of Active Shooter Drill, all of the perimeter doors to the school building will be locked and will remain locked until the danger or issue outside or inside the building is removed.

To enable everyone to remain safe, no one will be allowed to enter the building or leave the building until the drill is completed.

GLENNALLEN HAS HAD AT LEAST TWO ACTUAL LOCKDOWNS IN LAST TWO YEARS

Actual lockdowns with fears of danger to children have occurred in the past few years. On October 25th, 2021, there was a social media posting that led to a lockdown at Glennallen School.

The year before, on October 16th, 2020, there was a 15-minute lockdown during the massive manhunt for Mark Heinz, of Gakona.
