Men Had Won Similar Contests Before

Now Face Possible Year In Prison

A contest for the biggest walleyes in Lake Erie, as determined by a weigh-in, was cut short dramatically when the person weighing in some very heavy walleyes slit open a fish belly and pulled out a lead ball.

Each of the fish that were presented by two anglers had been stuffed with ten lead weights, the event's coordinators have charged.

The two fishermen were disqualified. If they'd won, they would have taken home $30,000. They had already won three other fishing competitions recently.

Among other crimes, a grand jury has indicted both men on felony charges of cheating and attempted grand theft.

The tournament's director was disgusted. He said on a Facebook video that this was "one of the most disgusting, dishonest acts that the fishing world has ever seen..."

If the men are convicted, they can face a year in prison.
